Macro photography is a unique form of photography that involves photographing small objects to make them look life-sized or more significant in the photo. The usual subjects include flowers and small insects, which we don't normally get to see up close with the naked eye.

The class will start when the insects are more active. So be ready to explore and capture breathe-taking macro images.

Introduction to Black and White Photography. What makes a good Black and White shot?

Without the distraction of color, there must be more emphasis on line, form, light, shade and tone. In this 2-hour meetup we will look at things like contrast, using light and textures to create beautiful shots. We will look for some good examples and set some exercises.

This meetup assumes you understand the basics of photography and controlling your personal cameras settings. All cameras as well as smartphones are welcome to this event.

Title or Location: Blue bottles
A small gallery and antiques shop owner, Ronald Harte, in Deer Isle, Maine saw a still life of with an interesting blue bottle that I use all the time, and wanted to buy it (not the one in the piece). It sold before he got to it. Over the summer he mentioned it and wondered if I could do a little series. Of course I said yes and started searching for blue bottles everywhere. The dark cobalt is a Vicks jar. The small one in the back looks like a medicine bottle. I saw the swirly one at my wife?s

Title or Location: Squirrel and friends on the hill
Early morning in Lisburn, Laurelhill area. A little squirrel was having an apparent conversation with a couple of the local pigeons. I like to imagine that the squirrel is called Simon. Perhaps the pigeons are Bob and Ted, not sure? They are conversing about how the leaves are turning.

Title or Location: Village Life
The artwork oil on panel size 12" x 9" was created in 2021. The scene is of my home village of Romiley and the popular coffee shop of ?No 29? where a print of the original hangs. The home of the original itself is just around the corner. The biggest challenge for me was to portray chrome chairs on the street. But it was a delight painting strong light and shade, something the villagers don't see enough.
